Once upon a time there were 2 friends who both wanted to lose weight, let’s call them Alex and Frankie. Alex was spending all of her time in the gym doing hours upon hours of cardio but she just wasn’t seeing results. Alex’s diet was based on healthy eating principles so she was becoming quite frustrated with her lack of weight loss. Frankie, on the other hand, hated the gym. But what Frankie did do was start to monitor his calorie intake using a calorie counting app…..Frankie started to lose weight….and Alex couldn’t understand why when he was doing so little exercise!
The moral of the story? If you want to lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit! It is as simple as that! Burn more calories than you consume through food and you WILL lose weight, eat more calories than you burn and you WILL gain weight. Exercise can, of course, help you to burn more calories and therefore helps to put you in a calorie deficit….but you still need to ensure you are not eating more calories than you are burning during your exercise sessions!
